Humans of New York,
Hi, my name is Stephen McFadden and I’m a freelance videographer and video editor living in Williamsburg Brooklyn. When I’m not shooting and editing videos, I take to the the streets of NYC to document the city. It’s so thrilling to not know what’s around the corner, so I always have my camera ready. I’ve been working in video since 2002 and I’ve been shooting street photography since 2007. I’ve always been intrigued with documenting various communities whether that be through photos or video. In the past few years, I’ve been shooting a lot of Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) style street shots below 14th street. This has been a great exercise in shooting on the fly and being in motion to capture the characters of the city. Visiting the same neighborhoods day after day has made the city feel really small but very welcoming. This process has dramatically made me a better photographer.
When I find myself getting a little less inspired by young and attractive people, I try and tap into the more tender side of people. The things that truly make us human. The in between moments we often overlook or simply walk past. These are the moments that truly make street photography an art form.
My career has been built on creating video content. That’s been my bread and butter for 23 years. Over those years, I’ve created tons of branded content and corporate videos which has paid the bills but the projects that I’ve felt the proudest of have been projects I’ve gone out and done on my own. I like to the think I’m a decent interviewer from behind the camera. I love to know what people are passionate about and what they’ve decided to share with the world. Here are some of my best “mini profiles and docs” they are very NYC specific.
Thank you for taking the time to review my information. You can see more of my work now that you’re already on my website and you can also read some of my blogs. Those are a lot of fun.
